Exclusive Look at the ElliptiGO Bicycle @ Schellars Fitness & Cycling
Fun, comfortable and easy to ride, the ElliptiGO is the world's first elliptical bicycle. Designed by runners as the ideal cross-training device, the ElliptiGO com- bines the best of running, cycling and the elliptical trainer to deliver a low- impact, high-performance outdoor workout.
The journey of creating the world's first elliptical bicycle began out of necessity in 2005 when 32-year-old endurance athlete Bryan Pate lost the ability to run for fitness due to knee and hip injuries. As a former cyclist and Ironman triathlete, he seriously considered returning to cycling to stay fit. However, he had always found the bicycle saddle and riding position to be uncomfortable and cycling workouts to require more time. As a result, he started using the indoor elliptical trainer. Although he liked the exercise, he hated being confined to the gym.
Determined to find a more suitable solution from the monotony of indoor exercise and the impact of running, Bryan approached his friend, mechanical engineer and now Co-Founder, Brent Teal. As a degreed mechanical engineer, former Ironman triathlete and competitive ultra-marathoner, Brent immediately set out to create a fitness device that would provide the experience and cardiovascular workout of running outdoors without the wear and tear on the body.
Five prototypes later, the ElliptiGO was born.
By modifying the elliptical trainer motion and combining it with the functionality of a bicycle, they created the ElliptiGO® line of bikes that deliver a high-performance workout experience while eliminating the impact. Elliptical biking has proven to be an effective way to build cardiovascular fitness without aggravating injuries, and a great alternative for people who can no longer run because of degenerative conditions. In the winter, the ElliptiGO can be mounted on an indoor trainer for use inside, giving you the best of both worlds and a truly year-round piece of workout equipment. For everyone from the weekend warrior to the elite athlete, the ElliptiGO provides the most comfortable, fun and efficient way to get outside and be active.
Scheller's offers the ElliptiGO® models for sale and test rides at their 11520 Shelbyville Road location in Louisville. For those need a little more time in the pedals before purchase, rentals are available too. For more information, call the Shelbyville Road store directly at 502-245-1955 or visit us on the web at www.Schellers.com.
This is an interesting idea I suppose, but I don't really see the need to combine an elliptical with an exercise bike. Why not just use one or the other?
